Microsoft’s First Android Nokia X2 Smartphone Unveiled

Jul 01, 2020

Microsoft unveiled the Android-powered Nokia X2 smartphone after it completed its takeover of Nokia's handset division

The Google made OS was the rival of Microsoft's own Windows Phone OS but now, Microsoft itself used Android to hook users into its cloud-based services. Nokia X2 users can download extensive selection of popular Android apps directly from Nokia Store.

"I still find it astounding that Microsoft is making Android phones, but there seems to be a steely determination to take a more open approach for the greater good of the whole company rather than just the Windows Phone platform," claimed Ben Wood of telecoms consultancy CCS Insight.

"If they don't do this, then someone else is going to get the business." "I also think it's a reflection of the fact that Nokia's budget Asha line of feature phones was unable to compete with entry-level Android mobiles."

The Nokia X2 is the follow-up to the original Nokia X, which was unveiled in Feb. before Nokia sold the business. According to the market-research company GfK, the Nokia X has been the best-selling smartphone in Pakistan and the third best-selling smartphone in India, not to mention the strong sales in Nigeria, Russia and Kenya.

Nokia X2 Specs and Features

1- a slightly bigger 4.3in screen
2 - 1GB of RAM, which is double the size of its predecessor
3 - improved battery
4 - the addition of a front-facing camera
5- price: $135; release in July
6 - Qualcomm MSM8210 Snapdragon 200 processor

Skype, Outlook and OneDrive Internet storage apps all come pre-loaded with the Nokia X2 but the company is also promoting other apps which include Bing Search, the business-focused social network Yammer, OneNote idea jotting service as optional free downloads.

"The whole idea of bringing more people into Microsoft Cloud through these services is the very core of the strategy," Jussi Nevanlinna, vice-president of mobile phones product marketing at Microsoft.
